Our purpose is to give our children a distinctly different start in life, preparing them for the world with hope, optimism, compassion and empathy. Sometimes, children will come up against challenges at home, school or with their mental or physical health that can mean it is more difficult for them to thrive.
At RAAS, we have an experienced team that prioritises the well-being of young people in our care to provide additional support when they need it.
How to access support within school
In the first instance we ask parents and students to contact the tutor. The tutor may then support with accessing additional services within the school. These include the following:
The Year Leader has overall responsibility for the well-being of the students in a year group, and can work with the tutor to identify issues and identify appropriate support.
Key Stage Support Officers - Key Stage 3 – Mrs Bostel; Key stage 4 – Mrs Smith
SEND Team – this team works to support students with special educational needs or disabilities.
The Chaplain – Rev Jonathan Boyce. Rev Boyce can provide support to students who are experiencing a range of difficulties. He offers a safe space to chat and perhaps go for a walk, sometimes with one of our specially trained dogs!
The Health Centre has a team of professionals who can support with medical-based issues. If a student needs to go the Medical Centre they must first report to Student Services.
House staff – when in boarding students should always speak to a member of boarding staff if they are concerned or worried about anything.
The Counselling Team offer weekly counselling sessions to those students who are referred. They also offer a drop-in service, which can be booked through Student Services.
